Children are welcome so long as you feel that they will be able to stand still for a 30 minute ritual ... Those under the age of 18 will need to attend with a parent or guardian or work out arrangements with us beforehand.
Please bring an item for the potluck meal that will follow ritual. If you find you cannot bring a meal with you, please do bring yourself! The potluck item isn't a requirement to attend the ritual. We will provide snacks and drinks for social time both before and after ritual. Our ritual and the events around it are alcohol and tobacco free. Allergy sufferers should note that we share our home with a cat and two Egyptian Spiny Mice but, as a member of the Coven is an asthmatic, we use a combination of air purifiers and cleaning to maintain high air quality in the house. Our rituals also shy away from using incense, burning sage, etc.
Hathor - September 11, 2011
It has been said in many different ways, and at many different times, that hate can never be overcome by hate... Only with love can we dispel hate to find the true healing, strength and peace to make a better world. Therefore, on this solemn eleventh day of September, 13 Moons Coven shall host an open ritual in honor of Hathor, Egyptian Goddess of Love, Joy, Fertility and Motherhood.
Ancient Hathor is the great matron of the Egyptian pantheon family, the great golden cow whose horns held aloft the sun and whose milk was the source of life and of the Nile. Please join us as we invoke the great mother and touch the warmth of her healing love to banish hate and transform the scars we see and carry!
Anubis - October 16, 2011
This month, as Samhain draws near, we will honor Anubis, God of the Underworld and Guardian of the Veil of Death. In this ritual we will be invoking Anubis in his role as guide and guardian of the dead, seeking his blessing as we remember and honor those who have passed into his realm.
Also, in honor of Anubis's Wolf and Warrior aspect of Anpuaut (a.k.a. Wepwawet or Upuaut), we will be setting out a collections box for donations to the Runs with Wolves Sanctuary in Limington, Maine... A worthy and good hearted non-profit organization dedicated to giving abused and neglected wolves and wolf-hybrids a permanent, stable and loving home. 100% of the donations collected will be given to the Sanctuary and you may learn more about the Runs with Wolves Sanctuary (or donate to them online) at their website.
Isis & Osiris - November 13, 2011
Please join us as we present a theatrical ceremony retelling the Legend of Isis and Osiris. In it, we shall tell of the divine love of Isis and Osiris, of Osiris's betrayal and death at the hands of his brother Set, of Osiris's resurrection through Isis as the God of the Afterlife, and the prophecy of Horus.
Isis Mother of Horus - December 18, 2011
We find ourselves in the darkest portion of the year, when weary souls are tested and hope for better times ahead may seem out of reach. Yet it is always darkest before dawn and as we stand upon the verge of the Winter Solstice, the promise of new light and hope shall be reborn!
Please join us as we present a ritual in honor of Isis and her newborn son, Horus, child of sky, sun and moon whose birth heralds the return of light and order to the world. Not only will we be honoring Isis and the newborn Horus by recounting their story, but we will also be seeking the blessings of Isis upon us by invoking her magic to bring protection, prosperity and new beginnings to us in the year to come as well.
Sekhmet - January 8, 2012
Protector of the pharaohs and their subjects, Sekhmet can be seen as the enforcer of divine Justice and Will though destruction and force. It is therefore not surprising that she was often known as "The One Before Whom Evil Trembles". Yet in her capacity to destroy, Sekhmet also knew how to preserve life and invoke healing.
She embodies the warrior's perseverance and tenacity that can overcome even the most challenging of circumstances. In our ritual this month, we will present you with an opportunity to ask Sekhmet for her protection, healing or assistance in attaining a personal goal that has stubbornly eluded you.
Bes - February 12, 2012
Bes is the diminutive yet stalwart Egyptian God of Protection, Laughter, Dance, Music and Entertainers.
Bes was a God of the home and of the people and was much loved and celebrated not only because he was the life of the party and knew how to have a good time, but also because he used his strength and wit to guard the home and protect the vulnerable from evil. Please join us as we honor Bes with ritual, laughter, music and dance to raise our spirits as winter drags on and invoke his jocular and protective powers within our lives!
Bast - March 11, 2012
Please join us as we present a ritual in honor of the Egyptian Goddess Bast. Well known as the patron mother Goddess of cats, she is also a protectress of families and their homes. We will be invoking Goddess Bast in our ritual to bring her protection into our homes and over the cats and other animals that we share our lives with.
Moreover, the blessings of Bast can be particularly effective to invoke healing in our beloved animals, or to speak well of beloved animal companions that have passed into spirit. Attendees can feel free to bring a small pet and/or home related item to be blessed on the altar and charged with Bast's power.
Set - May 13, 2012
Set is perhaps best known for the betrayal of his brother Osiris and subsequent conflict with (and ultimate loss to) his nephew Horus. Because of the dramatic legacy left to us from this mythology, it became easy for later generations to cast Set as a "God of Evil".
Although it can be said that Set is representative of man's "dark side" to a degree, Set is symbolic, to a much greater degree, of the opposing forces we in encounter in life. He is the infertile desert sands encroached upon the fertile river valleys. He is the embodiment of violent storms and pitch darkness. He was seen as a God of strength not only because he had the might to challenge, but also because passing his trials proved the strength one already possessed or had gained though the trail itself.
Set is the bringer of Chaos and challenger of status-quo in a family of Gods who were very much about order. Therefore, Set was the great outsider, and not surprisingly, the God of Outsiders and Foreigners as well.
It is as a God of Chaos... of the sudden, unsuspected and hidden events the come from nowhere and challenge our resolve and convictions ... That Set can open new insights and pathways in our lives. He urges us to weary, strong and prepared. And even should his might cast us sprawling to the ground in defeat, we can look to the trail as a lesson and opportunity to find new ways of being and living.
Horus - June 3, 2012
Summer days are upon us and the Sun reins long in the Sky. In these days that surround the Summer Solstice, our thoughts turn to Horus, the Egyptian falcon lord of the Sky. The Son of Isis and Osiris, Horus embodies the wisdom, might and benevolence of the ideal ruler and King. It was Horus who avenged the murder of his father by his uncle Set and in doing so he banished Chaos and restored Order... Claiming his rightful place as King of the Gods and restoring balance to the Cosmos.
Join us as we honor Horus as Divine king, warrior-protector and savior, invoking his name and legendary Wedjat to protect us from harm, overcome adversity and see though the falsehoods of life.
Ma'at - July 1, 2012
Please join us as we present a special ritual in honor of Ma'at, Egyptian Goddess and embodiment of truth, balance, law, order and justice. While Chaos may have it's benefits when it visits us from time to time... It becomes like an unwelcome guest if it stays too long.
Life can be far from simple and filled with layers of responsibility and complication, with each facet holding the possibility introducing Chaos if we are not careful. In this ritual, we will be invoking Ma'at and asking the Goddess to aid and promote greater focus, balance and order within our lives. In addition, should you seek aid in finding, or living with the consequences of, Truth or Justice, this ritual will also contain an opportunity for an audience with the Goddess.
